Adult Education

Why Adult Education?

The Adult Education Department of Frederick County Public Schools offers a comprehensive adult education program that includes Adult Basic Education (real-life reading, writing, math and computer skills), Adult Secondary Education (GED test preparation and the External Diploma Program), and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). These programs are available to individuals who are at least 16 years of age and not enrolled in any K-12 school program. We offer services including assessments, referrals, and classes at many locations throughout the county, during the day, in the evening, and on the weekend.

How to start? How to continue? How to complete?

Getting started in Adult Education is as easy as a phone call. When you call, a receptionist, who is interested in you and your goals, will answer your questions and explain our orientation process. Then, you attend an orientation where you will hear an explanation of our programs, have a chance to ask more questions, meet other learners, and talk with one of our advisors. You and the advisor will map out next steps that satisfy your goals and fit your schedule. Most people then attend class. How long We did it!you attend depends on your goals and how much time you can invest. Classes are professional, friendly and most are free! You can only get started by making that first step.
